live camera home

south street/live camera/

in '95, i met andreas troeger, an artist who shared live camera code he had written in applescript. at that time there were very few live cameras on the web, perhaps a dozen.

i set up a mac web server, and live camera, the first connection consisted of two 28k modems, one at my ISP, dedicated to the live camera.

over the years the connection was upgraded, the original 28k modems replaced with 56k, then ISDN, a dedicated local loop, and finally synchronous dsl. in the first year 100,000 people visited from around the world.

the cam received a lot of press. many moving emails, the bridge seemed to bring out the dreamer in visitors.
